Urban planning is the profession that concerns itself with the health and quality of life of urban places—cities and their suburbs, small towns and rural villages.

Urban planner, is responsible for managing the development of new areas in cities, towns and villages. He reviews existing areas, assist in gaining planning permission for developments and ensure that developments are assessed for the environmental and economic impacts.

Given the diversity of the profession, urban planner do a great variety of things. “The most important role for the planner is to work with the public to identify a community’s goals. Urban planner anticipate how a city will function and how it will look as it develops (or redevelops) in the future. Urban planning is about possibilities. Urban Planner also involve in the following areas (and many more):

  • Developing planning policy at a national, regional or local level.
  • Reviewing and monitoring existing planning policy documents.
  • Assisting with the preparation and implementation of transport policies.
  • Ensure that areas are attractive, safe and pleasant to live, work in and visit.
  • Balancing the needs of a growing population with environmental impacts.
